Obituary

Harry W. Zutell of Brewster, NY, died May 7, 2019 in Brewster, NY, at the age of 89.
Mr. Zutell was born March 6, 1930 in Bronx, NY, son of the late Harry W. and Wanda (Gorecki) Zutell. He was a parishioner of St. Francis Xavier Parish, graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School, and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Iona College. He served honorably in the US Army in Germany during the Korean War.
On September 8, 1956 he married the love of his life, Lois Zuanelli, in St. Philip and St. James Church in the Bronx. Together they moved to Brewster in 1959 and became parishioners of St. Lawrence O’Toole Church.
Mr. Zutell loved people and was very compassionate. These traits helped make him a successful personnel manager with AT&T in White Plains, NY for thirty-two years. Harry enjoyed celebrating his German and Polish heritage, served as a lector at St. Lawrence O’Toole, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, a member and officer of the Elks club for many years, and a member of the American Legion. He sponsored adopted children in developing countries and started his neighborhood block party. He was never happier than when he was feeding guests at his home, whether at a planned event or when they just dropped by to say hello.
Along with his wife of 62 years, Lois, Mr. Zutell is also survived by his three daughters: Kathryn (and Michael) Prokop of Florham Park, NJ, Carolyn (and Frank) Lowe of Brewster, NY, and Laura (and David) Handville of North Eastham, MA, and his eleven grandsons: Andrew (and Quinn), Alex, Eric, Zack, Jake, Sam, Josh, Liam, Aidan, Kieran and Daniel. He is also survived by his brother, Richard Zutell, of Hudson, FL, and many dear nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday May 17, 2019, 11:00AM at St. Lawrence O’Toole Church, Brewster, NY. Interment will be private. Friends may call at Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster, NY on Thursday, May 16 from 3-7pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please consider a donation to the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund.
